Une assiette fabriquée par la célèbre maison Mason's,
qui a débuté ses activités de poterie au début du XIXème
siècle.
Cette assiette en particulier est unique, car elle représente
le pavillon royal de Brighton, une résidence de la famille
royale d'Angleterre, qui fut construit au début du XIXème
siècle.
J'ai appris récemment le pourquoi du comment le
Pavillon de Brighton avait été édifié. Il s'agit d'une
construction réalisée d'après les plans de l'architecte
John Nash, sur injonction du roi George IV.
Le roi George IV a laissé une trace dans l'histoire
pour le moins peu reluisante pour un monarque,
ainsi il a été associé à la noblesse décadente et on a
dit de lui qu'il était "un individu lascif et corrompu
qui ne pense qu'à lui".
Cependant son goût pour les belles choses et l'architecture
est universellement reconnu et il a transformé par son
oeuvre bon nombre de bâtiments, et laissé par exemple
Le pavillon de Brighton en héritage.
On y retrouve une architecture très marquée par le style
indien, il s'agit presque d'une reproduction d'un des palais du
Rajasthan, l'Angleterre étant très marquée depuis les voyages
coloniaux de la Reine Victoria, par tout ce qui provenait
d'Inde, alors encore sous la domination anglaise.
(La Reine Victoria avait même ramené à son service un
domestique Indien). Il évoque également au premier coup
d'oeil le célèbre Taj Mahal, mausolée de marbre blanc d'Agra
mondialement connu.
L'assiette est joliment décorée d'un motif extrêmement
fin et chargé sur les larges rebords, qui ne sont pas droits
mais ont un mouvement ondulant, très prisé dans les
céramiques Mason's.
C'est une pièce unique, elle peut être décorative ou de
service.

A plate that was made by famous Establishments
Mason's. They started their pottery activities at the
beginning of the 19th century.
This unique plate in particular shows the Royal
Pavilion at Brighton, a residence of the Royal
Family of Great Britain that really exists, and that
was built at the beginning of the 19th century.
This architecture was really influenced by the
anglo-indian style, a craze that had started with
the colonial voyages of the Royal Family and in
particular of Queen Victoria.
Everything that came from India, then a
British colony, was fashionable, and indeed the
Queen had even brought back from her trip an
Indian servant. This building looks like
the reproduction of a Rajasthani Palace,
and is also reminiscent of the truly
magnificent mausoleum of world famous
Taj Mahal, made white marble that sits in
the town of Agra in India.
The plate is lovely with its broad and extremely
complex decoration on the sides, and also has
wavy outlines, which was fashionable as well
with Mason's pieces.
This is a unique item, you can use for decoration,
as a wall hanging, but also to serve cake, and to eat in !
This is a lovely present for newlyweds' home,
for a housewarming, or if, like me, you like
fine things.
